Yvonne Rita Murphy

Yvonne Rita Murphy (aka Sam), age 81, of Defiance, Ohio, whose vibrant life spanned from September 1, 1943, until her passing Wednesday evening, September 4, 2024, has left a mark on all who knew her. Born in the bustling city of Chicago, Illinois, Yvonne attended Lakeview High School, Class of 1961. Yvonne blossomed into a remarkable woman, contributing her talents as a dedicated retail business owner and manager. Her career was not merely a profession, but a passion that she pursued with an unwavering commitment, inspiring those around her with her work ethic and infectious spirit.

Yvonne loved to explore new places therefore she lived several years at each of the following locations: Chicago IL, Fort Wayne IN, Paulding OH, Tazewell TN, and her final stint in Defiance OH. Yvonne was an avid collector of--- well, everything, but she especially loved her coin collection, teacups, hurricane lamps, movies, recipe books, antique glassware, and many more. You could find Yvonne scouring garage sales, thrift stores, flea markets, and estate sales for that special item. For many years Yvonne donated her time to the Hope Chest in Defiance, OH where she loved sorting, pricing items, and meeting customers. In her senior years she enjoyed puzzles, bingo, and playing games. Yvonne was an avid movie watcher loving the classics, including western and war movies, especially those with John Wayne. She will be remembered for her love of flowers and plants. Her house was filled galore with many varieties of plants. She would share her passion by giving away starter plants to friends and family.

Yvonne's proudest accomplishment was the love she shared with her family. She married Stephen Murphy who preceded her in death on November 17th, 1979. Yvonne was preceded in death by her sister Jeanette Zink Renner and her brothers Joseph Denkin and Thomas Denkin. Yvonne is leaving behind her beloved daughters; Deb (Brad) Kimpel, Cindi (Scott) Butler, and Michelle Sullivan. She also has a son Randy Smith. Her legacy continues through her seven grandchildren: Kimberly, Krista, Brandon, Ashlynn, Hayden, Alyssa, and Logan and four great-grandchildren, Hadley, Corbin, Brandon Jr, and Esme.

In keeping with Yvonne’s wishes, she will be cremated, and services will be private.
