William "Bill" Martin Urban

November 24, 1970 — September 4, 2013

William “Bill” Martin Urban, devoted husband, father, son, brother, coach, teacher, and friend, died unexpectedly, Wednesday evening, September 4, 2013, at his Swanton home, while outside doing yard work. He was 42. Bill was born November 24, 1970 in Toledo, Ohio to Gilbert and Anna Catherine (Potts) Urban. He was a 1989 graduate of St. John’s Jesuit High School and obtained his Masters of Education Degree from the University of Toledo. On July 19, 1997, he married the love of his life, Jennifer Hoffman.

Bill touched many lives through his love of teaching and was a positive role model for his students. He started his teaching career at St. John’s Jesuit and coached wrestling and football. The past 13 years Bill taught English Literature at Swanton High School and coached wrestling. Bill was a mentor to all and never had a cross word to say about anyone. He was so encouraging, upbeat, and cheerful, and always had a smile on his face. Bill had the ability to find the positive in everyone regardless of the circumstance. He loved hunting and fishing and spending time with family and friends.

Bill was a member of St. Richard Catholic Church, Special Member of VFW Swanton Memorial Post #8598, Sons of American Legion Swanton Post #479, and was a Mason.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 16 years, Jennifer; sons, Hunter Michael and Maxwell Martin; parents, Gilbert and Anna Catherine Urban; siblings, James M. (Melissa) Urban, Jeffery M. (Sharon) Urban and Christine (David) McAllister; nephews and nieces, Kyle, Gabriel, his godson, Liam, Marnie, Major Gilbert; mother-in-law, Patricia (Ted) Hoffman; brothers and sisters-in-law, Scott (Heather) Hoffman and Michelle (Jay) Yoder; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Martin F. and Wealtha Urban; maternal grandparents, William and Velma Potts; and father-in-law, Thomas O. Hoffman.

Family and friends may visit Monday, September 9th from 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Swanton High School Gymnasium, 601 N. Main St., where a Vigil service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday, September 10th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Richard Catholic Church in Swanton, where a Mass of Resurrection will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Father Adam Hertzfeld presiding and Deacon Jerry Ziemkiewicz assisting. Interment will follow at St. Richard’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hunter and Maxwell’s Education Fund at First Federal Savings and Loan of Delta, any branch.

Mass of Resurrection: Tuesday, September 10th at 11:00 am at St. Richard Catholic Church, where visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass

Interment: St. Richard's Cemetery
