William Lee Thompson, age 81 of Swanton, Ohio, passed away early Thursday morning, November 21, 2013 in his home surrounded by his loving family, following a lengthy illness. He was born January 31, 1932 in Butler, Pennsylvania, to Harold and Gladys (Fennel) Thompson. On September 11, 1950 he married the love of his life, Shirley VonAhrens.
Bill worked at Bartley Red and White grocery store for 27 years and retired from Foodtown. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and the NRA. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and had a love for farm animals.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley; sons, William (Brenda), Thomas, James, Larry (Deanna) and Danny Thompson; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Betty) Thompson; sisters, Shirley (Robert) Schiffer, Mary Watkins, Harriet (Dan) Harden and Darlene Greenwood.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brother, George Thompson.
Family and friends may visit Saturday, November 23rd from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631). Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 24th at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment will follow at East Swanton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
