William Harold McGhee, age 76, of Metamora, Ohio, passed away early Sunday morning, October 25, 2009 at the Flower Hospital in Sylvania. He was born October 18, 1933 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Harold and Leona (Perry) McGhee. He served in the United States Navy and was a Korean War veteran. On May 3, 1958, he married Ruth Lumbrezer.
Bill was a 50-year member of Plumber & Pipe Fitter Local #50.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, Catholic War Veterans Post #306 in Assumption, Lyons VFW Post #7574, Swanton American Legion Post #479, Amvets, Swanton Elks, and the Delta Eagles.
Bill was an avid supporter of his children’s and grandchildren’s academic and nonacademic interests and a fervent fan of the Evergreen Vikings, along with Ohio State and Notre Dame. His quick wit and kind heart will be sadly missed. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, dad, grandfather, and brother, and a dear friend to many.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Ruth; children, Mary (Jack) Carson, Marsha Craney, Michele (Jim) Parker, Michael (Mary) McGhee; grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany, Levi, Cole, Kristin, Justin, Samantha, and Danielle; step-grandchildren, Thad, Kelly, Rob, and Jaime; brother, Tom (JoAnn) McGhee; brothers-in-law, William (Judi) Lumbrezer, Richard (Ginger) Lumbrezer, and sister-in-law, Joan (Calvin) Rice; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may visit Tuesday, October 27th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, where a Scripture service will be held at 7:00 p.m., followed by a military service at 7:30 p.m. Prayers will begin in the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28th, followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Assumption. Fr. Ron Schock will officiate. Interment will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to Evergreen Athletic Boosters or Holy Trinity Church.
