William “Bill” Haas, age 73, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Friday morning, August 27, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 18, 1936, the oldest of 12 children, in Sandusky, Ohio, to Fred and Janet (Curtis) Haas. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Sandusky and on September 14, 1957 married Nova Abbott.
Bill worked for H.E. Reichle Construction Co. in Waterville for several years pouring concrete. He then worked for Swanton Township Road Maintenance, retiring from there. He was a member of St. Richard Catholic Parish, the Knights of Columbus, and the Whitehouse Moose Lodge.
Bill enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, wine-making, and recycling. Recently, along with his grandchildren, he donated 200 pounds of pop can tabs to the Ronald McDonald House.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nova; children, Becky (Jim) Lumbrezer, of Swanton, OH, Joe Haas, of Delta, OH, Gregory (Sabrina) Haas of Wauseon. OH, Brenda (Pete) DeGroff, of Montpelier,OH, Tim (Kathie) Haas, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and “adopted” daughter, Cindy Falkenberg of Woodhaven, MI ; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Nancy Haas, Rita Haas, Kathy Canterbury, Yasha (Kirk) Arant and Janet (Gene) Lyons; brothers, Pat (Judy), Ray (Janet), Fred (Mary) and Matt (Sue) Haas; sister-in-law, Judi Haas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, David and Timothy Haas.
Friends and family may visit Monday, August 30th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, where a Scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m.. Prayers will begin in the funeral home on Tuesday, August 31st at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. at St. Richard Catholic Church, with Fr. Dan Zak and Fr. Robert Holden officiating. Interment will follow at East Swanton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Richard School, Ronald McDonald House, or Swanton Rescue.
