Wilbur "Willie" Stephen Thomas, age 73, of Whitehouse, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Friday morning, October 12, 2012, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born August 28, 1939 to John and Ruth (Soash) Thomas in Grand Rapids, Ohio. Willie married Sharon Nowak on August 10, 1968. He served in the US Army Reserve and was a member of the Grand Rapids American Legion Post #232, the Maumee Elks Lodge #1850, and the Masonic Order. Willie worked as an operating engineer all over northwest Ohio, retiring in 2002.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 44 years, Sharon; daughters, Dawn Thomas and Michelle (Chris) Morgan; grandchildren, Steve, Chris, Brendan, Reid, and Brooke; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, Elinor Parish, Janis (Douglas) Kelley, Larry (Diane) Thomas, Mary (James) Williams, and Carole (Donald) Zellmer; sisters-in-law, Ruth and Barbara Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Victoria Hawkins; siblings, Albert, John Ryan Jr., Ruth Kay, and Ross Thomas.
Family and friends may visit Tuesday, October 16th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631), where an Elks Lodge service will be held at 7:00 pm. A service celebrating Wilbur's life will be held Wednesday, October 17th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, with Fr. Jerry Knueven officiating. Interment, with Military Rites, will follow at Whitehouse Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
