Wilbur D. Nichols, formerly of Camden, MI, passed from this life on April 10, 2014, in West Bloomfield, MI. Wilbur was born November 25, 1936, in Lyons, Fulton Co., Ohio, to Walter L and Elizabeth (Morley) Nichols. He was a 1954 graduate from Metamora High School and a 42 year employee of the American Chain and Cable Co. in Adrian, MI. During his employment, he represented Local 268 as the 3rd baseman on their softball team. A beloved husband and father, Wilbur was the quintessential family man. He enjoyed to travel, hunt, fish, golf, bowl, garden, music, Bob's Barn and anything that meant spending time with friends and family.
Wilbur is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Caroline (Berendt) Nichols, having married on July 2, 1960; 5 children, Michael (Boonlam) of Montpelier, OH, Matthew (Jennifer Fields) of West Bloomfield, MI, Maria (Steven Amaro) of Dallas, TX, Martin(Annette) of Adrian, MI and Mahlon (Erin) of Clawson, MI; 5 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandsons; sisters, Naomi (Robert) Dunbar and Chloe (Frank) Smallman, and brother Gary (Irene) Nichols.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Warren, Glen and Lawrence, and sister Carol.
Visitation will be held at Weigel Funeral Home, 413 E. Main St. Metamora, Ohio (419-644-3601) on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, from 2pm - 8pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the family would be greatly appreciated. A memorial Mass will be held at 11am Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Sacred Heart Church, 220 S. East Ave., Montpelier, OH.
