Interment with Military Rites: St. Mary's Cemetery

Wayne J. Farnsel, 86, a life-long resident of Metamora, Ohio, entered into eternal life, surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday morning, July 29, 2014. He was born May 31, 1928 to Edward and Lottie (Davis) Farnsel. After graduation from Metamora High School, he joined the United States Army and served from 1950-1952. On November 22, 1952, he married his beloved wife, Theresa Jacob.

Wayne was a farmer, and also worked for Blissfield Manufacturing for 31 years. He was an avid harness horseman and member of the U.S. Trotting Association. He was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, and was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post #306 in Assumption. He also was an active member with the Lyons VFW Post #7574, Swanton American Legion Post #479, and the Delta Eagles Lodge 2597.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Theresa; daughters, Lynette M. (Steve) Schmitz of Lyons, OH and Lee Ann Miller of Metamora, OH; 6 grandchildren, Sam Schmitz, Stephanie (Greg) Meyer, Stacie (Scott) Westbrook, Brooks (Gretchen) Miller, Brittany (Mark) Cymbolin, and Brett Miller; and 10 great-grandchildren, Dylan, Madysen, Gavin, Sophia, Chet, Phoebe, Easton, Hayden, Hope and Champ.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Davis and Kenneth Farnsel; and son-in-law, Chris Miller.

Family and friends may visit Saturday, August 2nd from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption. A Mass of Resurrection will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the church, with Fr. Michael Dandurand presiding. Interment, with Military Rites, will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CWV #306 or Holy Trinity Church.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Flower Hospital and Ebeid Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Wayne.
