Walter James Renner, Jr., age 91, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Swanton Valley Care & Rehabilitation. He was born October 29, 1917 in Toledo, Ohio to Walter James, Sr. and Minnie (Vance) Renner. He enlisted in the United States Army-Airforce and served during WWII as an airplane electrical mechanic gunner stationed in Panama. On March 2, 1957, he married Theresa Marie Fackelman.

Walter worked for Standard Oil, and also worked 18 years for the Dana Corporation as a machinist, retiring March 1, 1980. He and his wife were members of St. Caspar Catholic Parish in Wauseon, Ohio. Walter was a member of the Toledo VFW Post #606, Wauseon VFW Post #7424, Swanton VFW Post #8598, and Eagles in Toledo. Walter was an avid book reader, reading up to five books a week.

He is survived by his loving children, Ellen Lewandowski of Swanton, OH, Kevin (Sherry) Renner of Fayette, OH, Kathleen DeRosia of Toledo, OH; grandchildren, Daniel Lewandowski, II, Corey Lewandowski, Christian Renner, Phoebe, Madison, and Zachary DeRosia; great-grandson, Stephen Walter; and former sons-in-law, Daniel Lewandowski and Joseph DeRosia.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Theresa.

Friends and family may visit Thursday, September 3rd from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 4th at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Fr. Robert Holden officiating. Interment will follow at St. Caspar Cemetery with military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Swanton or Wauseon Public Library.
