Virginia J. Thomas

Virginia J. Thomas, age 86, of Neapolis, Ohio, passed away Sunday morning, April 13, 2014, at Swanton Health Care & Retirement Center. She was born January 14, 1928 in Spring City, Tennessee to Garland and Josie (Robinson) Crisp. She married Walter Thomas in 1949, and he preceded her in death in 1971. She was remarried to Norman Lapham in 1974.

Virginia worked as an accountant and bookkeeper for 40 years. She worked out of her home office up until October of last year. She was an active member of the Neapolis Church of Christ, attending bible study and never missed working the rummage sales. She strived to be a better Christian by learning more about her Christian faith, and applying it in her daily life.

Virginia loved getting her hands dirty planting flowers and vegetables; and canning and freezing what she harvested.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Norman; daughter, Sherry (Tim) Buckenmeyer; son, Gregory Thomas; Step-daughters, Sharon Meeker, and Cindy (Fred) Schneider; grandchildren, Jennifer Schneider, Michael Buckenmeyer, and Christopher (Caylene) Holmes; 4 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and 11 step-great-grandchildren; and brother, Harold Crisp.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter, daughter, Rebecca Holmes; and sister, Maxine.

Family and friends may visit Wednesday, April 16, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631). Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 17th at Neapolis Church of Christ, 8221 Main St., at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Tom Bates officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Neapolis Church of Christ or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
