Vicki Lynn Smith

Vicki Lynn Smith, age 55, conceded defeat to colon cancer Thursday morning, November 27, 2014, with her daughter and son at her bedside. The high level of courage, strength, and resolve during this five-year battle are an ongoing inspiration to all who witnessed her endurance! Vicki was born in Hudson, Michigan on April 10, 1959 to Ellen and Doyle Gillespie. Her crowning life achievement was raising her children, Jessa Rae and Jacob "Bud" (Jerilyn). Vicki adored her grandchildren, Cheyanne, Chase, and a recent addition, Charley.

Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, and father of her children, Clyde Smith. Left to cherish her memory include her children and grandchildren; sister, Luann (Mel) O'Hara; brother, Steve (Sharon) Gillespie; the entire Smith family; uncle, Ivan Gillespie of Wasilla, AK; many cousins, very special nieces and nephews; and her dearest friends, especially Teresa and Angie.

Vicki was a knowledgeable and dedicated public servant. She enjoyed her work as the Fulton Township Fiscal Officer since 1987, and the Village of Lyons Administrator since 2000. She served for several years as secretary of the Fulton County Township Association. Vicki was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign War Lyons Post #7574 Ladies Auxiliary, and an avid member of the Kid Rock fan club! Vicki loved taking trips to the beach, and was happiest when she was near the ocean.

Family and friends may visit Monday, December 1st from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631). Services celebrating her life will be held Tuesday, December 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment will follow at a later date at Lyons Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, OH 43557, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Visitation: Monday, December 1st from 3 to 8 pm at the Weigel Funeral in Swanton

Memorial Service: Tuesday, December 2nd at 11:00 am in the Funeral Home

Interment at a later date: Lyons Cemetery
