Veryl E. Sharples, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 26, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital, the day after her 90th birthday. She was born June 25, 1920 in Holland, Ohio, to Orville and Goldie (Vesey) Stair. In 1940 she married Lloyd “Ross” Sharples and he preceded her in death on November 8, 1974.
Veryl was a homemaker raising her four children. She was a long-time active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Swanton Elks, Valleywood Golf Club, and Order of the Easter Star. Veryl was an avid singer, singing in the church choir, and with her sisters on the radio. She even sang the Star Spangled Banner at the Mud Hens Games for over 20 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Gary (Rita) Sharples of Swanton, OH, Jim (Judy) Sharples of Bedford, TX, Chrys (Linda) Sharples of Tarpon Springs, FL, and Jeff (Linda) Sharples of Bartlett, IL; grandchildren, Carol (Jim) Wuest, Jody (Howie) Miller, Gary Sharples, Jr., Jennifer (Josh) Fagonbaum, Jill (Robb) Brewer, Jamie (Andrea) Sharples, Annie (Jeff) Sydlowski, Michael (Kristen) Sharples, and Betty Sharples; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Barnes and Leah Fager; and brother-in-law, Wayne Bahler.
Besides her husband, Ross, Veryl was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings Lavone Osborn, Genevive Foltz, Albert Stair, Margie Druschel, Hattie O’Connor, and Winona Bahler.
Family and friends may visit Wednesday, June 30th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Visitation will continue Thursday morning, July 1st from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, where services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Barbara Jean Pope will officiate. Interment will follow at East Swanton Cemetery.
