Van Goin of Swanton, Ohio, passed away February 7th, 2025, surrounded by his wife and children. He passed due to complications of illness connected to his service in the United States Marine Corps. Van was born March 2nd, 1967, in Toledo, Ohio, to James and Ava (Melton) Goin.
He graduated from Swanton High School in 1985, and served at Camp Lejeune in the USMC from 1985-1989. He married Angela Lord on July 8th, 1988, and they enjoyed over 36 years together.
His favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing. He loved to listen to music, especially heavy metal. In his early days he loved to ride and work on dirt bikes. He enjoyed watching a variety of sports, the Indianapolis Colts, The Ohio State Buckeyes, and Detroit Tigers were favorites. Van was a family man so most of his time would be spent with them. He particularly enjoyed watching his children compete in sports through their school years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Angela; children, Christopher and Olivia (Scott); five grandchildren, Riley, Lennon, Jersey, Charlie, and Crew; siblings, James “Buddy”, Christina, Keith, Vonda, Janice, and Jennifer; Father/Mother-In-Law, Bobby and Marie; Brother-In-Laws, Ed (Julie), Dave (Kim), and Jeff; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ronnie, Christy, Steve, and Beth; and Sister-In-Law Michelle.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 15th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, where services will begin at 4:00 pm.
