Urban Joseph Langenderfer, age 88, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully at Flower Hospital, Tuesday morning, December 2, 2008. He was born October 27, 1920 to Henry and Elizabeth (Pinkelman). On March 26, 1951, he married Margaret Henry.
Urban was a farmer his entire life. He loved children and was known to many as the “candy man” because of his bottomless pockets of jelly beans and Good-n-Plenty’s.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret; two children, Mike (Karen) Langenderfer and Nancy (Barb Stambaugh) Langenderfer; grandchildren, Melissa Langenderfer, Sarah (Staten) Barnes and Nick Langenderfer; great-grandchildren, Ian Barnes, Zachary Langenderfer and Noah Barnes; and brother, Harvey (Si) Langenderfer.
Urban was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.
Friends and family may visit Thursday, December 4th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, where a Scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Prayers will begin Friday morning, December 5th, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Resurrection at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Immaculate Conception) at Marygrove on Raab Road at 10:30 a.m., with Fr. Ron Schock officiating. Interment will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
