Susan Jo Simon, (Suzie) beloved mother, grandmother, and matriarch of the family, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her devoted, loving children, Saturday afternoon October 14, 2023, she drew her last breath. She was born April 19, 1944, in Toledo, Ohio to Dale and Marcena (Collins) Spratt. Susan's journey through life was defined by a deep love for her family and an unwavering dedication to her career. Susan was a 1962 graduate of Libbey High School.
Susan began her professional life as a bookkeeper at Tri-State Concrete. While Susan poured herself into her career, her true joy came from spending time with her children and grandchildren, traveling and especially going to the beach. Nothing brought her greater happiness than being surrounded by them and teaching them the history and cultures along the way.
Beyond her devotion to family, Susan had wide-ranging interests that enriched her life. Susan had a talent for crocheting quite early in life, supplying her family with blankets, slippers, and whatever creation she could come up with. Her home was adorned with cherished antiques and dolls, especially her wooden carved Hitty or Jinny dolls. Furthermore, Susan dedicated herself to uncovering all the aspects of genealogy—a quest that consumed her in retirement. There wasn’t a day you couldn’t find her seated at her computer finding her loved ones.
One of the highlights of Susan's life was attending Keith Urban concerts. This became another inspiration to travel. Her and her girls traveled many miles to enjoy their shared passion. She also met and became close friends with fellow fans all over the US on this journey.
Susan's legacy continues through her surviving family, who understood she was one of a kind and their rock. She is survived by her son, Randy (Kelli) Coleman; daughters, Kathy Boger and Kristy (Scott) May; sister-in-law Jean Spratt; grandchildren, Josh, Kristen, Dustin, Danielle, Dylan, Collin, Paige, Luke, and Nick: and great-grandchildren: Kayson, DJ, and Banks—all of whom brought immeasurable joy to her life.
Susan was predeceased by her parents, Dale and Marcena Spratt; her loving husband Pete Simon; and her brother Dale Spratt Jr. (Buddy)
Private graveside services will be held at Amboy Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Evergreen Community Library.
Special request: she always said, “just bring me a flower”. For anyone who wants to pay respects to Suzie, lay a flower by her side when you’re driving by!
