Sally Marie Hassen, age 59, lifelong resident of Assumption, Ohio, entered into eternal rest, Tuesday morning, August 4, 2009, at Flower Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 2, 1950 in Wauseon, Ohio, to Maynard and Dorothy (Casler) Gillen. Sally graduated from Evergreen High School and earned an associate degree from Davis Business College. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Adrian. Sally enjoyed card making, gardening, sewing kids clothing, and taking care of her four-legged canine, Sissy.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Charlie Tomanicek; mother, Dorothy Gillen; children Holly Hassen, Joel (Nicole) Hassen, Don Eric Hassen; granddaughter, Gabrielle Hassen; step-children, Stephen (Kristina) Tomanicek, Sarah (David) Volk; step-grandchildren, Ari and Antonio Stevens; siblings, Larry (Christina) Gillen, Daniel Gillen, Randal Gillen, Peggy Shaffer, Kenny (Jan) Gillen, and Gary (Lisa) Gillen; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Sally was preceded in death by her father, Maynard Gillen.

Friends and family may visit Friday, August 7th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., followed by a Scripture service. A Mass of Resurrection will be held Saturday, August 8th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 415 Ormsby in Adrian, Michigan, where visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Assumption.
