Ronald E. Rupley, Sr., age 86, of Metamora, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home, Sunday evening, January 16, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Hudson, Michigan on July 13, 1924 to Earl M. Rupley and Bertha M. Miller. Ron married Donna Mae Barrs on June 2, 1962.

Ron joined the U.S. Army in October of 1943. He went overseas to Germany in 1944 where he sustained an injury and was awarded the Purple Heart. He also received the Bronze Star, (2) European-African Medals, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, and a WWII Victory Medal. After the war, he worked in a factory in Adrian MI, until his retirement in 1968. He and his wife then moved to Metamora, Ohio.

Ron was a member of the Swanton VFW Memorial Post #8598 and the Swanton American Legion Post #479. He was a big supporter of the Salvation Army; and enjoyed playing poker with his friends and family, bird watching, and his dogs. Ron was also an avid gardener.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Donna; children, Ronald (Judy) Rupley, Jr. of Adrian, MI, and Linda S. (Chris Sutherland) Wolff of Swanton, OH; 16 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother; and 2 sisters.

Friends and family may visit Wednesday, January 19th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 20th at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow at Amboy Township Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Americare and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the loving care they provided dad.
