Ronald Dee Moffett

January 1, 1946 — May 28, 2015

Ronald Dee Moffett passed away at home after a 22 month battle with stage IV prostate cancer. Ron was the oldest son of Edith (Grier) Moffett and Thomas Dewey Moffett, Jr. He grew up in East Liberty, Ohio. A year after graduating from high school, Ron enlisted in the Coast Guard and became a diesel mechanic. He married his soul mate, Gretchen (Cook) Moffett on June 20, 1969. They have one daughter, Ronnie.

Ron was very active in the Swanton community. He coached girls’ softball, served on Village Council, Planning and Zoning Committee, and was an active member of the “O” Division of the Swanton Area Railroad and Model Club. Ron was an avid bowler for many years and rolled a 300 game on February 14, 1980. He and Ronnie also bowled in several tournaments together. Ron worked as a diesel mechanic for Detroit Diesel and WW Williams until his retirement in 2008. Ron was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Ron leaves behind his wife, Gretchen, daughter Ronnie(Fred) Bower and grandson Josh, siblings Dan(Joan) Moffett, Barry(Marcia) Moffett, Karen Moffett, Becky(Chuck) Schmitt, Cindy(Randy) Bell, a multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be missed by all.

Family and friends may visit Sunday, May 31st from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631). Funeral services will be held Monday, June 1st at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Swanton, with Pastor JT Bean officiating.
