Ronald W. Dixon, age 71, a lifelong, very active and devoted resident of the Swanton, Ohio Community, passed away Monday, January 17, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was born February 20, 1939 in Swanton, Ohio to Willard and Marguerite (Mohr) Dixon. He graduated from Swanton High School and attended the University of Toledo. Ron served in the United States Army Military Police, and served on the Honor Guard for President Kennedy when he was in Germany. On February 12, 1966, he married his beloved wife, Judy Shull. Ron worked for John’s Manville for 35 years, where he started out as a laborer, and worked his way up to Plant Manager over both facilities, retiring in 1998.

Ron was a lifetime charter member of the Swanton Elks Lodge #2462; Swanton American Legion Post #479; past-president of Valleywood Golf Club; Swanton School Board; and Swanton Boosters; and Co-Chairman that resurrected the Swanton Corn Festival. Ron coached little league baseball and basketball for several years, and was an avid golfer and Ohio State and Cleveland Brown’s fan.

Ron’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandson, Trayte. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 45 years, Judy; daughter, Tonya (Joel) Figmaka of Holland, OH and son, Todd Dixon of Swanton, OH; grandchildren, Trayte, Lauren and LCpl Joel Figmaka; sister, Sharon Osborn of McClure, OH; sisters-in-law, Sandy Shull and Pat Frye; nieces, TyLynn, Tammy (Eddie) Laster; nephew, Jimmy (Jan) Frye; and great-nieces, Baylee, Brittany, and Alex.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends and family may visit Friday, January 21st from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. A Ceremonial Tribute Service will be held Saturday, January 22nd at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Brian Haller officiating. Interment at East Swanton Cemetery will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
