Romain John Langenderfer, age 63, of Berkey, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, March 27, 2008. He was born July 12, 1944 in Swanton, Ohio to Romain Omer and Marilyn Rita (Karmol) Langenderfer. He was a United States Air Force Vietnam veteran and member of Swanton American Legion Post #479 and the Disabled American Veterans. He also was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish.

Romain was a Quality Engineer for Champion Spark Plug Co. for 25 years until it closed. He then went to work for Kraft until his retirement on August 1, 2007. Romain was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking in the woods, mushroom hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed working on the computer, International harvesters, metal detecting, and was an avid collector of practically anything.

Romain is survived by his mother, Marilyn; children, John (Amy) Langenderfer, and their children, Jackson and Mason; Bryan (Denise) Langenderfer, and their children, Stephanie, Chelsea and Eli; Eric Langenderfer, and his children, Brooke and Tara; and Samantha (Andrew) Helleck, and their children, Thomas and Olivia. Also surviving are his siblings, Beverly Langenderfer, Sharon (Don) Vaughn, Darryl (Debbie) Langenderfer, Thomas (JoAn) Langenderfer, Terrance (Judi) Langenderfer, Joyce (Douglas) Meller, Rene (Andrew) Garrow and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Romain was preceded in death by his father, Romain Omer Langenderfer; grandson, Christopher John McDonald; maternal grandparents, John and Lucille Karmol and paternal grandparents, Edward and Catherine Langenderfer.

Friends and family may visit Tuesday, April 1st from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, April 2nd from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora. A Scripture service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening in the funeral home.

Prayers will begin Thursday morning, April 3rd, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception at Marygrove on Raab Road at 10:30 a.m. Fr. Dennis Metzger will officiate. Interment will follow at Marygrove Cemetery with military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
