Roberta E. Cooley, age 90, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Tuesday afternoon, October 20, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 24, 1919 in Stryker, Ohio to Elmer and Esther (Schaffer) Renaud. On June 4, 1938, she married Forrest D. Cooley. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1997.

In 1953, Roberta and her husband founded Tri-County Block & Brick in Swanton. She devoted her life to the business working as Secretary/Treasurer up until March of this year due to her failing health. She and her husband enjoyed spending the weekends at the cottage on Snow Lake in Angola, Indiana. Roberta loved being around people. After her husband’s death, she enjoyed socializing with her McDonald’s friends in the morning and in the evening.

Roberta was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Swanton.

She is survived by her children, Brenda (Larry) Danser of Glendale, AZ and Roger (Karen) Cooley of Swanton, OH; grandchildren, Susan (Chad) Everett, Robert (Liz) Cooley, Wendy (Tim) Nijakowski, Jennifer (Gary) Moore, Donavan (Jennifer) Cooley, Hans (Cheryl) Damaske, and Tim (Gretchen) Cooley; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Forrest, Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; son, Robert and sister, Florence Louys.

Friends and family may visit Friday, October 23rd from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 24th at Trinity United Methodist Church in Swanton, where visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Rev. Barbara Jean Pope will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Lockport Cemetery in Stryker, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Gideon’s International, or Odyssey Hospice.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Swanton Health Care and Assisted Living for their wonderful care.
