Robert C. Rowley, age 77, of Swanton, Ohio died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday evening, October 4, 2008. He was born December 22, 1930 in Delta Ohio, and was the proud adopted son of the late Leo Cam and Mabel Leah (Harding) Rowley.
Following graduation from Swanton High School, Rob enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in North Africa during the Korean War. Prior to his tour of duty, he married Mona Babcock on May 16, 1953. Upon his return home, Rob attended the University of Toledo. In 1955, he started working for his father-in-law at the Babcock Insurance Agency. He later owned and operated the R.C. Rowley Insurance Agency in Swanton Ohio for over fifty years. Rob subsequently sold the business to Insurance Agencies of the Maumee Valley and remained actively involved with his clients until his death.
Rob was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Swanton American Legion #479, Independent Insurance Underwriters Association, Knights of Pithias and lifetime member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and reading. He especially cherished the time he spent with his four grandsons.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Mona; sons, Cam W. (Christine) Rowley of Dalton, Ohio, and Gregory L. Rowley (Jay Levin) of Swanton Ohio; daughter, Renee (Dwight) Emerich of Lincoln Park New Jersey and his beloved grandsons, Belden Robert Rowley, Connor William Rowley (USMC), Zachariah Cam Rowley and Zaylor Lee Rowley.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday October 11 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 210 North Main Street in Swanton, where friends may visit 1 hour prior (10:30 a.m.) to the service in the church parlor. Pastor Barbara Jean Pope will officiate. A private interment at Dutch Ridge Cemetery will be arranged at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Trinity United Methodist Church.
