Robert "Butch" Roth

Robert "Butch" Roth, age 80, life-long resident of Swanton, Ohio, went home to be with his Heavenly Father, Monday, October 13, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee. He was born May 18, 1934 to the late Otto and Erma (Geahlen) Roth. He was a 1954 graduate of Swanton High School, and following graduation, was drafted in the United States Army. On April 16, 1960, he married his beloved wife, Carol Cass. Together they raised three children.

Robert worked 48 years as a machinist for The Andersons in Maumee, and also served on the fire and rescue, retiring in 1998. Robert was a member of Brailey Union Church. He was a founding member on the Swanton Volunteer Rescue Unit, and held the position as Assistant Chief. His only regret was that he never had the opportunity to deliver a baby. Robert loved the outdoors. Whether it be taking a walk through the woods on his property, to hunting rabbit or fishing, he loved it all. He especially loved camping with his wife and family. He looked forward to the Fulton County Fair each year and camping at their spot they've held for over 40 years.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 54 years, Carol; daughter, Sandy Bruno; sons, Gary Roth and David (Sharon) Roth; grandchildren, Jennifer, Kendra, Michelle, Katie, Madison, Zachary, Alayna, and Edee; 6 great-grandchildren; as well as his sister Dorothy (Russ) Vose and brother, Donald (Bonnie) Roth.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Norma Dernlan; and brother, Kenneth Roth.

Family and friends may visit Friday, October 17th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 18th at 11:00 a.m. at Brailey Union Church, with Pastor Lucas Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
