Robert E. Pilliod

Robert E. Pilliod, age 95, lifelong resident of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Monday afternoon, August 10, 2015, at the Fulton County Health Center. He was born September 19, 1919 in Swanton to Norbert and Ann (Jungwirth) Pilliod.

Bob was a 1937 graduate of Swanton High School. Prior to Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in both the European and Pacific Theatres during WWII from 1941 to 1945. Following honorable discharge, he attended BGSU where he graduated in 1948 with a major in French and minor in Business Administration. He returned to Swanton and worked 29 years at The Pilliod Cabinet Company as a Credit Manager and 11 years as an inspector for the Department of Liquor Control in Fulton and Lucas County. He and his wife, Sadie Njaim, married May 7, 1955. She preceded him in death on July 5, 2000.

A devout Roman Catholic, Bob was a lifelong parishioner at St. Richard Catholic Church. Bob was a member of the Swanton Volunteer Rescue and Swanton Chamber of Commerce. He was a charter member of the Swanton V.F.W Memorial Post #8598, and life member of the Swanton American Legion Post #479, where he served as Chaplain. Bob was a long time member of Valleywood Golf Club and enjoyed hunting golf balls. He also enjoyed polka dancing and the band of Fred Zwick.

Bob is survived by his sons; David J. Pilliod and Chris (Debbie) Pilliod; daughters, Sarah Anderson and Mary (Jeff) McMahon; grandchildren, Kerry Anderson, Calvin Anderson, Wesley Anderson, Eleanor McMahon, Jim McMahon, Jackson Pilliod, Ross Pilliod, and Henry Pilliod; sister, Sally Lenfestey; brother, Fred (Laura) Pilliod; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Betty Birdsell.

Besides his wife of 45 years, Sadie, Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margaret Najarian; and brothers-in-law, Ray Najarian and Wayne Lenfestey.

Family and friends may visit Thursday, August 13th from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, where a Vigil Service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday, August 14th, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Richard’s Catholic Church, where a Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Walter Tuscano presiding and Deacon Jerry Ziemkiewicz assisting. Interment, with Military Rites, will follow at St. Richard’s Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Swanton Fire and Rescue.
