Robert Joseph Meiring, Sr., age 73, of Swanton, Ohio, died peacefully at his home, early Friday morning, October 10, 2008. He was born March 3, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio to Urban and Agnes (Schneider) Meiring. Bob worked in the family greenhouse and truck farm, and later enlisted in the U.S. Army. On January 8, 1968, he married Nancy Johnson.
Bob worked for Roadway as a dock worker, retiring in 1998. He and his wife worked in the rental business. Bob was a hard worker and used his talents in the business and farming. He was a member of St. Richard’s Catholic Parish, Teamster’s Local 20 and REIA group. Bob enjoyed helping people and loved being around his family and grandchildren. He will be remembered as a very patient man.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Nancy; children, Tana (Paul) Knauss, Rex (Linda) Kline, Kim (George) Gibson, Sylvia Meiring (Paul Nicholson), Robert, Jr. (Leanne) Meiring, Walter (JoAnn) Meiring and Mark (Lori) Meiring; 32 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Mike) Wheeler and brothers, Louis (Mary) Meiring and Thomas (Roberta) Meiring.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Richard Meiring, Patricia Menden and Frederick Meiring, Sr.
Friends and family may visit Sunday, October 12th from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 13th at St. Richard Catholic Church, where visitation will be 1 hour prior to the Mass. Fr. Daniel Zak will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Richard’s Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Richard’s Parish, Heartland Hospice, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
