Robert L. Savin, age 73, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, October 4, 2009. He was born March 16, 1936 in Youngstown, Ohio to Robert F. and Dora Mae (Ditzler). He proudly served his Country in the United States Marine Corps, and remained loyal throughout his life. On November 28, 1956, he married Shirley Welsh.

Bob enjoyed coaching football and basketball at St. Thomas Parish in Grand Rapids, and at one time was voted “Coach of the Year”.

Bob is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 52 years, Shirley; children, Coleen (Phil) Watts, Robert Savin, Jr., Brian (Jennifer) Savin, Eva Savin and Scott Savin; grandchildren, Kelli (Jeremy), Joseph, Jr., Brian, Jr., Amanda, Meaghan, Robert III, Joshua, Brad, Jayden, Jackson, Eric, Joshua and Justin; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Evan, Madison and Dylan; brothers, Tom, John and Tim; and sister, Carol Girardi.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill.

Friends and family may visit Wednesday, October 7th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton, Ohio, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Richard Catholic Church, 333 Brookside Dr. in Swanton, on Thursday, October 8th at 11:00 a.m., where visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Fr. David Tscherne will officiate. Interment at St. Richard Memorial Gardens will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Veteran’s Administration.
