Richard J. Sabin, age 78, of Toledo, Ohio, and 50-year resident of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Sunday morning, July 10, 2011, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born June 14, 1933 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Anthony and Cora Sabiniewicz. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. He married Mary Katherine Bratton, and she preceded him in death September 30, 2004.

Richard was an accountant at the Pilliod Company, retiring in 1999. He was a member of St. Richard Catholic Church, Swanton Elks Lodge, Swanton American Legion Post #479, and served on Village Council. He also coached Little League Baseball for 13 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Marsha (Dave) Horner; son, Michael (Jennifer) Sabin; grandchildren, Sarah (Brian) Ratz, Cody Horner, Ashley Smith, Tori Klostermeier, and Danielle Sabin; and great-grandchildren, Keegan Ratz and Taylor Horner.

Family and friends may visit Thursday, July 14th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton. A private graveside service at St. Richard’s cemetery will follow at a later date.
