Rebecca A. Holmes, age 55, of Neapolis, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Tuesday evening, November 29, 2011, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. She was born June 15, 1956 in Toledo, Ohio to Walter and Virginia (Crisp) Thomas.

Rebecca obtained her Associates degree in Accounting from Owens Community College. She was a small business accountant with Partnering Community Accounting, and was well respected by her peers and her customers.

When Rebecca wasn’t working, she enjoyed the domestic side of life. She loved vegetable and flower gardening – growing her own herbs, canning and freezing what she had grown. She enjoyed cooking and sharing her recipes with family and friends.

Rebecca will be remembered as a one of a kind woman who loved spending time with her son, granddaughter, and great-nieces and nephews. She loved driving them through town on her golf cart and driving off the beaten path to pick raspberries or hunt for insects. In the neighborhood, she was known as the “hot dog lady”- feeding hot dogs to the dogs that came to her door.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Christopher Holmes (Fiancee, Caylene Barns); the light of her life - granddaughter, Cadence Holmes; mother, Virginia; stepfather, Norman Lapham; sister, Sherry (Timothy) Buckenmeyer; brother, Greg Thomas; niece, Jennifer Schneider; nephew, Michael Buckenmeyer; great-nieces and nephews, Dana, Alexander, and Joe; and stepsisters, Sharon Meeker and Cindy Schneider.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter; husband, Timothy Holmes; and nephew, Michael Schneider.

Family and friends may visit Thursday, December 1st from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631). Funeral services will be held Friday, December 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Michael George officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Neapolis Church of Christ or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
