Mass of Ressurrection: Saturday, June 23rd at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption

Raymond P. Martin, age 91, of Berkey, Ohio, entered through the Gates of Heaven, Monday afternoon, June 18, 2012, at Swanton Health Care & Retirement Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 9, 1921, in Berkey, Ohio to Samuel and Louisa (Ford) Martin. On September 26, 1942, he married Irlyn F. Lemle at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Richfield Center, Ohio. She preceded him in death on October 29, 2009.

Raymond served his Country in the US Army during WWII and received a Bronze Star for driving 10,000 miles behind enemy lines. He worked for the New York Railroad and later for GM, retiring in 1980, and joined the GM Retirees Club.

Raymond was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and the Catholic War Veterans Post #306 in Assumption. He and his wife enjoyed traveling to Florida in the winter and spending time at their trailer in Indiana during the summer months. He also enjoyed golfing and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (John) Pflum of Assumption, OH; son, David (Nicolea) Martin of West Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Brian (Shawn) Allan, Melissa Allan, Suzanne Salsbury, Kathleen (Tom) Anderzack, Diane (Tyler) King, Anthony (Janet) Martin, Andrew (Marcy) Martin, and Brent (Megan) Martin; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Besides his loving wife of 67 years, Irlyn, Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Victor Martin.

Family and friends may visit Friday, June 22nd from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, Ohio, where a Scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 23rd at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass. Fr. Ron Schock will officiate. Interment, with Military Rites, will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery.
