Raymond Anthony Kreuz, age 84, of Metamora, Ohio, died Thursday morning, January 30, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born December 23, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio to Joseph P. and Mary Ann (Dibling) Kreuz. Ray served in the United States Army and was a Korean War Veteran. After returning home from the service, Ray married his beloved wife, Sylvia B. Herr on May 15, 1954. She preceded him in death on June 25, 2012.
Ray was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed growing and harvesting a variety of fruits and vegetables. He was a member of the Toledo Farmers Market Association, selling his produce for over 50 years. Ray was involved with the Fulton County Farm Bureau, serving as president for several years. He also served on the Fulton County Planning Commission, and was an active participant in the Fulton County Soil and Water Conservation program.
Ray was very active in the community serving 8 years as an Amboy Township Trustee. He was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where he served as an Eucharistic Minister. Ray was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a long time member of the Catholic Knights of Ohio, the Catholic War Veterans Post #306 in Assumption, and past member of the Elks Lodge.
As an athlete himself, Ray loved coaching and watching athletic events especially those of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed bowling and golfing often with Sylvia. As a couple they spent many winters in Florida with family and friends.
After suffering a stroke Ray required constant care. The family was able to meet his wishes by caring for him in his home. This was possible with the love and excellent support of the additional caregivers to whom the entire Kreuz family is thankful.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Larry (Tina), Gary (Nancy), Donna (Mark) Farnsel, Amy (Tony) Silvestri, Nancy (Todd) Carter and Mary Jo (Joe) Fischer; 24 grandchildren, Joe Kreuz, Kari Kreuz, Ed Farnsel, Jacob Kreuz, Jared Kreuz, Curtis Farnsel, Doug Kreuz, Alex Kreuz, Laura Dibert, Arthur Silvestri, Josh Fischer, Brian Kreuz, Antoinette Silvestri, Matt Fischer, Michael Fischer, Kate Carter, Mary Silvestri, Annie Carter, Mildred Silvestri, Amy Silvestri, Raymond Silvestri, John Silvestri, Cecilia Silvestri, and Gina Silvestri; and 7 great grandchildren, Hannah Kreuz, Tyler Kreuz, Aiden Kreuz, Breyden Kreuz, Lanie Kreuz, Alexa Dibert and Joey Shope; siblings, Joseph Kreuz, Mary Louise Weyburne, Theresa Falter, and Francis Kreuz.
