Raymond Steven Fitch, age 79, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Saturday afternoon, December 17, 2011, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born November 18, 1932 in Delta, Ohio to Richard, Sr. and Lilly (Anderson) Fitch. After graduation, Raymond enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Korean conflict aboard the USS Sanborn APA-193. When he returned home, he attended Stautzenburg Business School and on May 2, 1959, married his beloved wife, Phyllis Culler.
Raymond worked for Norwalk Truck Lines, Toledo Steel Tubes, and Swanton Cable & Wire. He was founding President of Buc-Ray Corporation, manufacturer of electrical wire harnesses, retiring in 2008. He was a member of Swanton American Legion Post #479.
Raymond loved yard work, reading, bird watching, traveling to Myrtle Beach and throughout the United States on family vacations, going to flea markets with his wife, and was an avid Cleveland Browns fan. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow up.
Raymond will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 52 years, Phyllis; son, Steven Fitch; daughter, Sandra (David) Ellis; granddaughter, Shannon Ellis; grandson, Joshua Ellis; and sisters, Dorothy Kuney and Thelma Phillips.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Charles, Rick, Dan, and Jim Fitch.
Family and friends may visit Tuesday, December 20th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Services will be held Wednesday, December 21st at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at South Swanton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
