Calling Hours: Thursday, March 22nd at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton

Delta, Ohio

Ralph “Pete” D. Barron, age 89, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday evening March 20, 2012, at his daughter's home in Swanton. He was born in Delta, OH, on February 11, 1923, one of two children, to the late James and Mildred (Arnold) Barron. On April 15, 1951, he married his wife of 59 years, Patricia Harms who preceded him in death on April 4, 2011. Pete was a 1941 graduate of Delta High School. Upon graduating from high school, he joined the United States Army and served during World War II. Upon completing his time in the armed services, Pete was a private chauffeur. He then ran his own cigar store in the Toledo Trust building. He decided that he would take up a position with Toledo Trust itself and held that position for over 20 years until the time in which he retired. Pete was a member of the Delta United Methodist Church and later attended Collingwood United Methodist Church on Phillips Ave. He was a 67 year member of American Legion post # 0373, a 60+ year member of The Free & Accepted Masons of Ohio, a 12 year member of Swanton Elks lodge #2462 as well as a Zenobia Shriner. Pete enjoyed golfing at Maple Grove Golf Course where he was a long-standing member, playing cards, and traveling with his wife; of which they achieved covering all four corners of the United States in the same year, from Hawaii to Alaska. Pete is probably most remembered for his caring nature, sense of humor, and great story telling ability, never failing to find humor in any situation. In addition to his parents and loving wife, Patricia, Pete was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Barron in 2006; son-in-law, Danny Shelley in 2010 and brother-in-law, Robert Harms who died in action in WWII. He is survived by his son, Thomas M. (Stacey) Barron of Florida; daughter, Tammy Shelley of Swanton; sister-in-law, Edith Barron of Delta; nephew, Richard (Barbara) Barron of Napoleon; grandchildren, Tara Barron and Kristi (Jesse Pine) Chapman; and great grandchildren, Ashley Barron, Morgan Pine and Tyler Barron.
