Rachel Marie Quay, age 82, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Swanton, Ohio, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2007. Rachel was born June 24, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio to John and Addie (Burt) Hawkins. On January 27, 1946, she married Ralph Ellis Quay at Wilkins Evangelical Church in Swanton. Ralph preceded her in death September 10, 2007.
Rachel was a lifelong member of Wilkins Church in Swanton, and more recently Calvary Baptist Church in Mesa, Arizona. She worked 23 years for Plummer Motor Sales in Swanton, where she also served as Deputy Registrar for many years. She finished her working career at Swanton Pharmacy, retiring in 1998. Rachel loved to play golf and bowl. Her proudest accomplishment was the hole-in-one which she made at Valleywood Golf Course. She served as a secretary for the Wauseon Women’s Bowling Association for many years, and continued to to bowl right up to the time of her death.
Rachel is survived by her seven children, Mary (Stephen) Gregg, Suzanne (Ron) Sauer, Dorothy (James) Thompson, George (Nancy) Quay, Janet (Thomas) Turner, Carol (Robert) Schaefer, and Roger (Patricia) Quay; 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sisters, Norma Whitmore and Gertrude House; brother-in-law, Melvin (Margoth) Quay.
Friends and family may visit Sunday, November 11th from 2:00 pm to 5 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St., Swanton, Ohio (419) 826-2631. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 12th at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Swanton Cemetery.
