Owen R. Beatty

Owen Raymond Beatty, age 90, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, July 7, 2015 at Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania, with his loving family at his side. He was born January 4, 1925 in Lyons, Ohio to Elizer and Grace (Shaffer) Beatty. Owen served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a naval aviator. On February 8, 1947 he married Dana M. Bixler.

He worked for Toledo Edison as a Line Foreman, retiring in 1987. Owen served as a Swanton Volunteer Firefighter for 30 years. He enjoyed maintaining his home and yard.

Owen is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Dana M. (Bixler); sons, Timothy P. (Susan), Christopher W. (Kathy), and Kyle O.; grandchildren, Grace (Joe) Bell, Pete Beatty, Amanda Beatty, Ian Beatty, Megan (Gabriel) Boscana and Justin (Pandora Young) Beatty; great-grandchildren, Lily and Lucy Bell, Amelia Boscana; brother-in-law, Wendell Newcomb; sisters-in-law, Sue Bixler; Lois (Arthur) German and Mary Lou Rettstatt.

Owen was preceded in death by his parents, his brother David, and sister Elizabeth; and son, Matthew.

Family and friends may visit Thursday, July 9th from 3-5 p.m. to 6-8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton (419.826.2631). Funeral services will be held Friday, July 10th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Cemetery in Delta will be held at a later date.
