Orville Miller, age 88, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Tuesday morning, September 30, 2014 at Kingston of Sylvania. The son of Joseph and Frances (Langenderfer) Miller, he was born February 27, 1926 in Richfield Township. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946 on the USS Corvus AKA-26. He met Regina Herr at a dance and they married on June 3, 1950. She preceded him in death on August 11, 2013, since then, his health has declined.
Together they raised five children in Richfield Center where he drove gas truck for LandMark. In 1972, they moved to Assumption, Ohio where they owned and operated Herr’s Grocery. They moved to Toledo, Ohio, and he worked for Hirzel Canning Company, retiring in 1991.
He was an active member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Toledo and was a choir member for a number of years. He was a long-time member of the Catholic War Veterans Post #306 in Assumption. Orville enjoyed a great Detroit Tigers ball game, camping, music, card games, and especially time spent with his family.
Orville is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Robert) Fenicle; sons, Ronald (Sheri) Miller, Dale (Ann) Miller and Martin (Deborah) Miller; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Neshkoff and Rita Trost; and brothers, Frederick Miller and Richard Miller.
Besides his wife, Regina, Orville was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Karen Lazenby; sisters, Mary Agnes Miller and Rose Ann Truckor; and infant brother, Norman Miller.
Family and friends may visit Thursday, October 2nd from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 413 E. Main St. in Metamora, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday, October 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 4555 N. Haven Ave. in Toledo, where a Mass of Resurrection will begin at 10:00 a.m., with Fr. Francis Speier officiating. Following a luncheon at the church, committal services and Military Rites at the graveside will begin at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Assumption.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Catherine of Siena Church or Catholic War Veterans Post #306 in Assumption.
