Norma I. Hassen, age 88, of Swanton, Ohio, entered into eternal rest, Friday evening, October 9, 2009 at Flower Hospital. She was born February 1, 1921 in Metamora, Ohio to Lawrence and Velma (Smith) Iffland. She married Joseph Hassen, and he preceded her in death on February 2, 1978.

Norma was a faithful member of Holy Trinity (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Parish at Marygrove, and its Altar & Rosary Society. She was an avid bowler on a bowling league for over 30 years.

She is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Mary Jo Hassen; brother-in-law, Harold (Lillian) Hassen; and sister-in-law, Helen Murnane; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Joseph, Norma was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bernard (Kie) Iffland and Burdett Iffland; brother-in-law, Romain “Doc” (Alice) Hassen, and Robert Murnane.

Friends and family may visit Monday, October 12th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Prayers will begin in the funeral home Tuesday, October 13th at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Immaculate Conception) at Marygrove, 1750 N. Raab Road. Fr. Ron Schock will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Assumption.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
