Mildred Agnes Horak, age 93, of Delta, Ohio, entered into eternal life, Saturday, November 22, 2014 at her home. She was born January 20, 1921 in Blissfield, Michigan to Fredrick and Kathryn (Valasek) Krizan. Mildred married her childhood friend, Joseph Horak on February 22, 1941. He preceded her in death as the result an automobile accident in 1955, leaving her to raise five children on her own. In order to provide for them, she worked at the Pilliod Cabinet Company in Swanton and Wauseon Wire Factory for over 20 years. She also sold Avon. When she wasn’t working, she was performing finish carpentry work on her home in Delta, which she took great pride in.
Mildred was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and its Rosary Altar Society. She was also a member of the Catholic Order of Forresters and Delta Eagles Ladies Auxiliary.
Mildred enjoyed baking Czech pastries and homemade noodles loved by everyone, along with making Czech dolls and hand crocheted quilts and playing Bunco. She also loved vegetable and flower gardening. Mildred truly loved and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and attending their school and sporting events.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Millie (Fritz) Mossing; sons, Stan (Deb) Horak, Fred (Peg) Horak, and Mike Horak; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren; brother, Frank Krizan; sister-in-law, Marilyn Krizan; and her four legged companion Poochy.
Besides her husband, Joseph, Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joseph Martin Horak; infant daughter, Deborah; sister, Kathryn Kokinda; and two brothers, Martin and Joseph Krizan.
Family and friends may visit Tuesday, November 25th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, where a Vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday, November 26th from 10:00 a.m. to11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Assumption, where a Mass of Resurrection will begin at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Michael Dandurand presiding. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
