Mary Lou Walbolt, age 88, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away Friday evening, September 19, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. She was born August 27, 1926 in Holland, Ohio to Reed H. and Mary (Haupricht) Tipping. On October 18, 1947, she married her beloved husband, William J. Walbolt. He preceded her in death on December 30, 1999.
Mary Lou started her career as a hairdresser. After marrying William, they owned and operated the Whirlwind Restaurant in Grand Rapids, Ohio. She also assisted her husband with the family farm (she drove the tractor), and was a cook at The Barn Restaurant in Delta, Ohio. She retired in January of 1987 from Evergreen High School, where she was head cook for over 20 years.
She will be remembered as a wonderful baker and cook. She loved the holidays when her family was all together and she had the opportunity to prepare her finest meal. Mary Lou also loved going antiquing, and spending her kids inheritance, collecting and buying Fenton glass pieces. Mary Lou knew no stranger, she could make conversation with practically anyone, and was a member of Swanton VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #8598.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Susan Tousel (Tom Brooks), Theodore (Diane) Walbolt, LuAnn Swick, Patricia Hartman, and Reed (Corey) Walbolt; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband William, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Reed and Mary; sisters, Lola Erdman, Irene Erdman, Ila Belle Hildreth, Ada Mae Vesey; brothers, Allen, Norman, and James Tipping; sons-in-law, Larry Swick, Glenn Hartman, and Robert Tousel; and her grandson, Gary Walbolt.
Family and friends may visit Wednesday, September 24th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton (419.826.2631). Services remembering her life will be held Thursday, September 25th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment will follow at Wakeman Cemetery in Waterville.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
