Mary H. Carman-Hawkins-Taylor, affectionately known as Toby, age 97, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away Tuesday evening, August 9, 2022, at Flower Hospital in Sylvania. Toby was born in Maumee, Ohio on March 3, 1925, to Henry Carman and Helen (Alder) Carman. She graduated from Grand Rapids, Ohio in 1943. Toby worked in the office at Jeep for many years. She then worked for Plascon for 12 years, retiring in 1975.
Toby was a life member at Alva N. Sidle American Legion Auxiliary Post
#232, also a life member of VFW auxiliary Unit #7424, a member of Elks Lodge #2462 and Eagles FOE #2597.
Toby was very active in the Fulton County Senior and the Swanton Pinocle Club. Besides playing Euchre and Pinocle, Toby loved visiting with friends, reading and working jigsaw and crossword puzzles.
Left to cherish Toby’s memory are her children; Robin (Kathy), Gerald
(Barbara), Lyle (Deanne) and Carmen Hawkins; three grandchildren, Heather Hawkins, Leah (John) Brewster and Kristopher Hawkins; 1 step-grandson, Cory Hawkins; four great-grandchildren, Hunter Hawkins, Kendall Scott, Rafe and Chiara Brewster; and many nieces and nephews.
Toby was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Taylor; father, Henry Carman; mother, Helen Carman-Box; and sisters, Lucille Woodling and Anna Niceley-Tanner.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 12th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Interment will be held at a later date at Swanton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
