Mary Ann Studenka, age 93, of Metamora, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014 surrounded by her family. She was born May 16, 1921 to the late John and Mary Kathryn Matyas in North Baltimore, Ohio and graduated from McComb High School in 1939.
Mary worked at several jobs in her life. She was a waitress, telephone operator and an employee of Willow Run Bomber Plant in Ypsilanti, Michigan. For most of her life Mary was a farmer alongside the one and only love of her life, her husband, Stanley.
Mary and Stanley, affectionately known as "Stub", were married April 21, 1945 in Assumption, Ohio. They were married for fifty-nine years until Stub's death in 2004. Mary and Stanley were extremely involved in promoting family heritage by organizing polka dancing and other activities involving Czech music, especially the annual Polka Fest held at Seward, Ohio.
Mary was a fantastic cook and baker. Her Czech pastries were famous and loved by anyone lucky enough to taste them. Her favorite meal was a Christmas Eve feast of lobster and prime rib which she prepared each year for her family.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Mary Kay (Robert) Huskins, JoAnn (Tom) Langenderfer and Barbara (Larry) Coopshaw; grandchildren, Sandy (Devin) Keigwin, Tammie Bull, Chad (Kristie) Coopshaw, Stacy Fischer, Tim Coopshaw and Shawn (Aimee) Langenderfer; great-grandchildren, Joe, Katie, Alyson, Brayden, Sidney, Grady, Brett, Paris, Brandon, Haley and MacKenzie; great-great grandchildren, Skylee and Donivin; and sister, Marcelle Beamer. Mary will also be missed by her little canine companion, Sugar.
Besides her loving husband and her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Susan; sister, Betty Klauda;and brothers, Frank and John.
Family and friends may visit Friday, July 25th, from 3-8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home(413 E. Main St. 43540) in Metamora, Ohio where a where a Scripture Service will begin at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26th, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption, where the family will receive friends one half hour prior to the Mass. Fr. Michael Dandurand will preside. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Those who wish to leave a memorial in Mary's memory may donate to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or the Czech Polka Dancers Club..
