Mary Ann Patek, age 92, of Metamora, Ohio, entered into eternal rest, Monday morning, December 22, 2008, at her daughter’s home in Metamora. She was born November 30, 1916 in Berkey, Ohio to the late Bartholomew “Bart” and Frances (Konecny) Stasa. On June 1, 1940, she married Martin Joseph Patek at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Assumption. He preceded her in death on March 6, 1996.
Mary Ann was a homemaker, raising her three children. She helped her husband on the farm; especially during the harvest season and raised chickens. She also enjoyed gardening. She retired in 1981 from Globe Weiss in Wauseon. Mary Ann was a faithful parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Assumption, and a member of its Altar Rosary Society. She participated in many of the church activities. She was a member of the Do It Well Club, which was a group of friends that would gather at each other’s home and make crafts. Mary Ann was also a quilt maker and made lots of quilts for family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Patricia (William) Mitchey of Metamora, OH, William (Diane) Patek of Metamora, OH and Anne Vasko of Morenci, MI; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Anna Mrkva of Lyons, OH, Frances Zientek of Swanton, OH, Betty Harbal of Moberly, MO and Millie (Norman) Oliver of Berkley, MI; brother, Leslie (Lillian) Stasa of Jasper, MI and sister-in-law, Dorothy Stasa of Lyons, OH. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Besides her husband and parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her sister, Rose Patek and brothers, Stephen, Frank, John, Anthony (Tony) and Charles Stasa.
Friends and family may visit Sunday, December 28th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Scripture service led by Sr. Joy Barker. Prayers will begin in the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 29th, followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Assumption. Fr. Ron Schock will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Parish.
