Mary E. Hansen, age 88, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her home, on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. She was born March 31, 1924 in Swanton, to the late Edward and Nannie (Hardy) Hastings. Mary was a Swanton High School graduate. On September 5, 1946 she married Boyd Hansen. He preceded her in death on April 8, 2005.
Mary worked for Doehler Jarvis National Lead Industry’s during the war for 2 years as a final inspector. She then worked for Campbell’s Soup for a couple of years. Mary loved going fishing on Lake Erie and in Canada on McGregor Bay. She was a homemaker, who loved to can and cook with her fresh produce from the garden. Mary loved to read and watch sports. Her favorite teams were Duke, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees and Ohio State. But most of all, Mary loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her loving children, Roger Hansen and Judy Hansen; granddaughter, Teresa (Christopher) Hansen-Smith; great-grandchildren, Derrick Angiletta and Camden Smith; nephews, Gary and Jack Pozsik, and niece, Sandra Craven.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Boyd; infant son, Dwayne Hansen; and sisters, Helen and Hazel.
Family and friends may visit Friday, November 30th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631). Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 1st, at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment will follow at East Swanton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the Cardiac Unit at UTMC.
