Mary E. (Snyder) Habel, 96, of Lyons, Ohio, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 1, 2013. Mary was born February 23, 1917 to the late Conda and Ada Snyder at their home near Metamora, Ohio. She married George E. Habel, March 3, 1937. They had a son, Richard 7-27-1939 who passed away 3-3-1943 plus 6 daughters; Joyce E. Swartz (Eddie) of Arkansas, Clarice J. Wyse of Lyons, Norma L. Miller (Dannie) of Wauseon, Nancy J. Brown (Arnold) of Bryan, Doris K. Kaufman (Rod) of Morenci, MI, and Lillian K. Mandler (John) of Perrysburg.
Mary loved being a homemaker for her family from children to great great grandchildren. Known for her cooking and cookies, she always had some tucked away. Kind, loving, and sweet are the words most often used to describe her. Everyone was welcomed in her home and a kind word to all who entered and those she met, always having time to visit or give a helping hand. She loved to travel and was ready to go when the opportunity arose. Traveling the U.S. with family from east to west, north and south; including Hawaii, and Internationally in Austria and Germany. Mary was a member of Lyons Christian Church, teaching Sunday School Classes and Vacation Bible School, and member of the Rebecca Lodge and Lyons Senior Citizens. She Chaperoned school field trips, 4-H clubs and FHA trips. Domino’s was a game she loved to play around the kitchen or dining table with family and friends.
Preceding her in death was her husband, George on April 4, 1971; grandsons, Charles Swartz, Shawn LaPoint, and Jimmy Thornton; great-grandsons, Raymond Jaqua and Austin Bandy; and son-in-law, Richard Wyse. Mary was the last of the Conda and Ada Snyder family of Metamora. Brothers, John (Jean), Bill (Fern), Charles (Betsy) and Jim; sisters, Grace (Joe) Yurnikle, Freda (Alfred) Gadzialski, and Betty Shambarger also preceded her in death.
Surviving grandchildren include, Jim (Debbie) Swartz, Jon (Gaylene) Swartz, Betty (Dan) Osborn, Rae Sue LaPoint, Joy Thornton, Tony (Lisa) Jaqua, Sonny (Susan) Wyse, Vicky (Eric) Newton, Bonnie Dolnick, Wendy (Steve) Manthe, Alan (Carla) Wyse, Michael (Katie) Wyse, Dan (Crystal) Miller, Kirk (Amy) Miller, Spence (Karen) Miller, Angel (Rob) Ell, Charity Forneris, Debbie (Hal) DeTray, Tabetha (Butch) Smith, Chris Bryant, John (Debbie) Stevenson, Shonda (Scott) Nofzinger, Trent (Terri) Stevenson, Tim (Charlene) Bandy, and Michele (Rick) Hess; plus 51 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jim Shambarger; and sister-in-law, Marlene Snyder.
The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. at Lyons Christian Church Friendship Hall, 138 E. Morenci St., Lyons, Ohio 43533. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 4th at 11:00 a.m. in the church, where visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Paul Bomeli officiating. Interment will follow at Amboy Township Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lyons Christian Church Building Fund.
