Marvel M. Bryan, affectionately known as “Sarge”, age 96, of Swanton, Ohio, died peacefully Saturday morning, February 26, 2011, at Swanton Health Care & Retirement Center. She was born December 6, 1914 in Ogden Center, Michigan to Carl M. and Hazel B. (Sheldon) Bryan. Marvel served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps Women’s Reserve during World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1946. She had the honor of marching in President Roosevelt’s funeral procession. Marvel worked at Spicer Credit Union as a bookkeeper for 34 years retiring in 1978.

She was a member of the Swanton American Legion Post #479, Swanton VFW Memorial Post #8598, and O.E.S. Toledo Chapter.

She is survived by her sisters, Myrna Vanarsdall of Toledo, OH and Mabel Allen of Tucson, AZ; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Marvel was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Richard, Robert, Harold, and Carl Jr.; and sisters, Mildred O’Neill and Mary Lou Taylor.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
