Marian Alma Lathrop, affectionately known as Grandma, age 85, of Blissfield, Michigan, passed away early Monday morning, March 23, 2009 at the Evangelical Home in Saline, Michigan. She was born January 25, 1924 in Waterville, Ohio to Ernest and Alma (Schueren) Holliker. She married Ariel Eugene Lathrop on June 22, 1943 and he preceded her in death on May 10, 1991.

Marian was a charter member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Metamora, Ohio, back when the church began holding Sunday services in the Fire Hall. She was a Sunday School teacher and Jr. Choir director. She worked 10 years as a sales clerk at Hudson’s department store and helped her husband run the 120 acre family farm. She especially loved driving the tractor. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her grandchildren, and traveling to the Florida “playhouse” to fish.

Marian is survived by her son, David (Maria) Lathrop of Maywood, CA; son-in-law, Dale (Susan) Weidmayer of Ann Arbor, MI; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Julia Moser of Waterville, OH, Loretta Marion of Phoenix, AZ and Emily Hume of Sylvania, OH and godchildren, Paul Holliker and Nancy (Marion) Seegert.

Besides her husband, Marian was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Weidmayer; brother, Kenneth Holliker and sister, Norma Marion.

Friends and family may visit Monday, March 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 12 (Noon) at the Faith Lutheran Church in Metamora. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) at the Church, with Pastor Glen Stadler officiating. Interment will follow at Ford Cemetery in Berkey, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, the Alzheimer’s Association, or Lathrop Park in Berkey.
