Margaret Christena Porter

Calling Hours: Thursday, November 10th from 2 to 8 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora

Margaret Christena Porter, age 94, of Metamora, Ohio, passed away peacefully, with her daughters at her bedside, Tuesday morning, November 8, 2011, at the family homestead in Metamora. She was born May 15, 1917 in Wellington, Ohio to Peter and Etta Margaret (Smith) Biehl. She married Donald Kenneth Porter on September 25, 1946. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2006.

Margaret worked for Pifer’s Greenhouse in Blissfield. She was a very active member of the Metamora United Methodist Church, where she served as church organist for many years. She served as Conference District Officer with the United Methodist Women’s Group, served as a board member at the Evergreen Community Library, and was a member of the Coterie Club. Margaret was a very creative woman who enjoyed oil painting; especially still life and landscape scenes. She and Don built the stone fireplace that served as a focal point in their home. Margaret also taught piano and enjoyed tending to her beautiful flower gardens.

Left to cherish Margaret’s memory are her daughters, Mary (Robert) Keller, Kristina (Philip) Davis; grandchildren, Rachel (Jason) Reynolds, Leah (Christopher) Salter, and David (Lisa Bakies) Keller, Michael Keller, Diana Margaret (Anthony) Bryant, and Melissa Davis; 4 great-grandchildren, William, Joel, Isaac, and Matthew; as well as her nephews, David (Janice) Biehl and Mark Biehl.

Besides her husband, Donald, Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Richard (Sis) Biehl.

Family and friends may visit Thursday, November 10th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora. Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 11th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Amboy Township Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Metamora United Methodist Church, Metamora-Amboy Volunteer Fire Dept., or Odyssey Hospice.
