Marcella R. Young

Marcella R. Young, age 91, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family, late Thursday evening November 10, 2011. She was born June 22, 1920 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Frank and Mida (Paul) DeCant. On June 28, 1941 she married her devoted husband, Irving C. Young and he survives.

Marcella was employed at the former Murphy’s Ben Franklin Store in Swanton for 25 years. She and Irving enjoyed traveling in their motor home and fishing in the U.S. and Canada, and they looked forward to spending the winters in Bushnell, Florida for 15 years. She also enjoyed bowling and square dancing, but most of all, she cherished her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marcella is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Irving; children, Jim (Linda) Young and Joyce (Tom) Shelley; sisters, Florence Bowen and Eleanor Symington; 7 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Franklin;

grandson,Ty Shelley; brother, Jerry DeCant; and brothers-in law, Richard Bowen and Tom Symington.

The family extends a special thank you to Heartland Hospice for their care and compassion given to Marcella; especially, Trudi, Patti, Heather, Jessica, Nichole, Susan, and Jodi.

Family and friends may visit Sunday, November 13th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 14th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Tom Bates officiating. Interment will follow at South Swanton Cemetery.
