Mahlon E. “Pat” Doyle, owner of Pat Doyle Motor Sales of Swanton, Ohio, died Sunday morning, July 21, 2013 at Swanton Heath Care and Retirement Center. He was 94. Pat was born August 20, 1918 in Metamora, Ohio to Thomas James and Clara Louise (Jacob) Doyle. He graduated from St. John’s High School, where he served as past president of his senior class. On January 31, 1941, he joined the United States Army and served during WWII in the Solomon Islands as a First Sergeant. Pat was honorably discharged October 11, 1945. Following the service, Pat married Ardane Mary Hollister, and she preceded him in death.
Pat served many roles within the Swanton community. He was a faithful member of St. Richard Catholic Parish, where he served on the parish finance committee and member of Sacred Heart Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was one of the founders and past president of the Swanton Area Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Swanton Exchange Club, where he enjoyed manning the chicken pits at their annual Chicken Barbecue’s. In the 1980’s, Pat served as director of the Farmers and Merchants Bank. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid reader.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Patricia Doyle; nephew, Gary (Linda) Doyle; niece, Julie (Gary) Boerst, great nephews, Brian (Jill) Boerst and Patrick Boerst; and great-great nephews and niece, Jacob and Ethan Boerst, and Julia Boerst.
Besides his wife, Ardane, Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Clara; and brother, Thomas James Doyle, Jr.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 24th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Visitation will continue Thursday, July 25th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Richard Catholic Church, where a Mass of Resurrection will begin 11:00 a.m., with Father Douglas Garand presiding and Deacon Jerry Ziemkiewicz assisting. Interment, with Military Rites, will follow at St. Richards Cemetery.
