Madeline I. Schmitz, age 83, of Wauseon, Ohio, passed away Friday morning, September 9, 2011 at Swanton Health Care Center, where she resided the past 9 months. She was born February 4, 1928 in Blissfield, Michigan to Julius and Reba (Ponton) Dierkens.

Madeline worked 20 years at Stubbie’s in Adrian, Michigan and 8 years at Schmidlin Greenhouse as a transplanter. She was a member of the Lyons VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #7574. Madeline enjoyed playing cards and BINGO and was an avid Jeff Gordon Nascar fan.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving daughters, Teresa (Wilbur) Garner of Berkey, OH and Vicky (James) Mann of Nashua, IA; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Katherine Cryder; brother, Charlie (Connie) Dierkens; brother-in-law, Richard Finfera; and sister-in-law, Viola Dierkens.

Madeline was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Alice McKenzie, Elizabeth McKenzie, Mary Finfera; brother, Jack Dierkens; and former husband, Ralph Schmitz.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Swanton Health Care for the wonderful care given to Madeline.
