Louis J. Fitch

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday evening at 7:00 pm in the Funeral home, led by the Swanton Elks Lodge

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of my beloved husband, our dear father, grandfather and brother, Louis J. Fitch, on March 8, 2015.

Louis was the son of Charlotte Ross and Marion L. Fitch. He attended grade school in Grand Rapids, Ohio and graduated from Holland High School. Louis joined the Army; the Signal Corps, and was stationed in Saran, France for 2 years. He loved being in France and going to Paris often.

After coming back to the U.S., Louis joined the Toledo Police Department. He graduated from the University of Toledo, while also working as a police officer. After 30 years of service, Louis, retired as a sergeant. After retirement, he became Chief of Safety and Security at Owens Community College. He also worked for a while at Burns Security.

Louis is survived by his wife, Johanna Tollenaar Fitch, his sons, from a previous marriage, L. John and Kelly Fitch and David M. and Tamara Fitch; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; his brother, Gary L. Fitch; and sisters-in-law, Adriana Koch (the late Frank) and Paulina and Wim Wolcken; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law; and his brother, Marion F. Fitch.

Louis was a very kind person and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Family and friends may visit Thursday, March 12th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631). A Celebration of his life, led by the Swanton Elks Lodge #2462 will begin Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
